Dr. Doug LaPointe

Doug accepted Christ in a hotel room in New York when he was 19. He found himself a non-believer one day, and an excited, on-fire servant of Christ the next! He’s been passionate ever since!

Doug holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Rutgers University, a Master of Divinity with honors from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Southern Evangelical Seminary. Pastor Doug is an ordained minister and has been pastoring Cold Spring Church in Bristol, TN since 2010 where they live their slogan, “Real People, Real Faith”. He has been in pastoral ministry over 25 years with a distinctive preaching style that utilizes modern day stories to bring the biblical text to life. Dr. LaPointe is the author of the beloved devotional, Come Close to God and the very popular book, The Top 50 Questions Ever Asked about Christianity used by the Florida State Congress in 2007. Pastor Doug draws on many other life experiences such as “golf instructor”, “baseball coach”, “youth pastor”, “school teacher”, and “chicken cook”! Doug began Comedy with a POINTE! in 2017 as he sensed the call of God to reach lives in ways conventional ministries have not.

Doug is married to Robin. He describes her as “the greatest find of his life”. He adores his two children, Zac and Chloe, and he does admit to having pretty strong feelings for a cat named, “Kim.” Doug’s passion is to connect with others in such a way that the message of the gospel is heard, compelling, and responded to in a life-changing way. That’s the POINTE!

Statement of Faith

Doug and Robin hold the following five doctrines to be the essential doctrines of the true body of believers around the world. We cherish and uphold these doctrines in all we do, teach, and say.

God loves you and wants to have a personal relationship with you. This is our purpose in life.

There is one true eternal loving God, as described in the Bible, who created all people to have a personal relationship with him and be right with him for all eternity. To know God and be right with him is the reason we’re alive. It’s our deepest need. “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10).

All people are sinful and have separated themselves from God choosing to go their own independent way apart from him.

Although God created us to have a personal relationship with him, every person has rejected him. We are sinful and have chosen to separate ourselves from him and replace him with other things. As a result of our sin, we lost our fellowship with God, became guilty before him, and are spiritually dead. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23).

Jesus Christ died for our sins so that we might be restored to God and come to know him.

God, seeing our desperate need for restoration to him, sent his Son, Jesus Christ, who is God, the second person of the Trinity. He became fully man and fully God and lived a sinless life among us. He was sent to the cross by the Father to die for our sins. On the third day, he rose again with victory over sin and death. Through this sacrifice alone we can be forgiven before the Father and begin a relationship with God. “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6).

We must individually receive Jesus into our lives. Then we will know God personally and be right with him.

Christ greatly desires for every person to repent of sin and come to him. He receives everyone who is willing to return to him and come into fellowship with him again. Everyone who opens their heart to him is eternally restored to the Father and comes to know him personally. “Here I [Jesus] am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me” (Rev. 3:20).

The Bible is inspired by God. It is God’s perfect words and a unique guide for life. It provides us with everything we need to know from God.

The Bible was written by God. As God cannot err, neither is the content of the Bible subject to error. It is accurate in all areas and to every word. God used sinful authors to write his flawless words. The Bible can be trusted and relied upon. It is meant to be studied, known, and applied. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16).
